JNS.org – Top evangelical Christian leaders met with President Donald Trump at the White House earlier this week to present the American leader with a “Friends of Zion” award for his recent recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
“This award was commissioned by the 9th president of the state of Israel, Shimon Peres, to recognize a global leader with courage to stand with the nation of Israel and the Jewish people,” noted Dr. Mike Evans, founder of the Friends of Zion Museum.
“We believe no American president in history has done more to defend the Jewish people in the United Nations,” Evans said of Trump.
In addition to recognizing Israel’s capital on Dec. 6, Trump set in motion plans to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Before his announcement, leading Christian Zionist organizations had urged the president to fulfill his campaign promise on relocating the embassy.
Pastor Mario Bramnick, president of the Latino Coalition for Israel, said Trump’s changes on Jerusalem “will bring United States policy in line with the will of the American people, as expressed by the United States Congress, and will serve as a recognition of both current and historic reality that Jerusalem has been the capital of the Jewish people and the Jewish faith, since ancient times.”
